~ Benjamin Duarri ~

Benjamin Duarri did these fantastic calligraphy illustrations and patterns for the children's book Goldilocks and the Three Bears by Lauren Child. The book is all photograph sets with real dolls, and it's adorable. Buy it on Amazon.

* Letterpress Prints by Wilkintie *

Some pretty renowned artists have contributed fantastic prints to this little Etsy shop: Wilkintie, based in Melbourne. Tim Biskup's is my favorite; I may just have to buy one.

Somber Party Poster III

Here is my latest poster and a little plug for my friend Rachel's band again: Somber Party, playing at Kilby Court in Salt Lake City next Monday night.

And sorry I have missed a couple of blog posts this week. Our whole family had the flu! But we're better now.

My Favorite Works from Lab Partners

Lab Partner's work has been showing up all over the place...for awhile. But I never saw just how many obsession-worthy pieces they've made! My favorites are their new four woodland-theme prints (top images), designed by Julia Rothman and Kate Sutton. These fabulous prints are available on Hello! Lucky gift shop. The rest of these images I pulled from their Flickr photostream here (I actually ran into it while searching "Gocco" on Flickr). A few of their prints are available on their Etsy shop here. Check their sweet blog here.

Jewell's Picks & Pics: Mary Blair

I read the same books every night. And every nap. So I've already got "I Can Fly" memorized. The illustrations are sooo fantastic. I am already being trained to be a huge Mary Blair fan.

You could say that when illustrators, designers and artists copy the mid-century style of artists like Mary Blair, that they are stuck in a rut. But is it really a "retro" style? I think that a style like this will exist in any era, as long as there are people around with a childlike sense for imagination and simple forms. It just feels natural to me!

Illustrator Lisa Evans

For the past two years Nordstrom, who has always chosen fabulous artists to create their holiday decor, has employed the freelance illustrator Lisa Evans to do their displays during the Christmas season. Living in the UK, Lisa seems to be living the dream. Her work is amazing, adorable, unique...all words that are commonly used, but in this case they are very applicable understatements! Jewell enjoys when I read to her from the Nordstrom book "Once Upon a Holiday," a children's book from which the above illustration was taken. All of these images came from Lisa's blog: firefluff.blogspot.com.
