Here are some pieces from Oilily's Spring/Summer 2012 girl's collection. Such adorableness. Oilily will always be my favorite kid's clothes. Jewell has several pieces (she pulls it off so well with her red hair), none of which were purchased full price. Shop the store for the sale rack, try eBay, or watch Zulily (they offer about half off the previous season when they feature Oilily, but they go fast the morning they post them so prepare to wake up at 6 am). This stuff is so quality, so in my opinion one Oilily dress is worth at least 4 other dresses.

It is truly my dream to someday have The Paper Nut grow into a "real" business. Right now I'm like Pinocchio in his wooden puppet phase. I don't have a day job to quit, but I want my little Indie line to pull a real income and become something that has a solid presence in the design world. For now, I'm raising preschoolers and trying to get half of our unfinished house finished. Anyway, these "Quit Your Day Job" articles on Etsy are fantastic. I found this one from Kin Ship Press really inspiring because she talks about how she didn't have to qualify for a loan or credit card to get started or have a ton of income saved (she was living from paycheck to paycheck). That was very soothing to hear, because I've often whined that the only reason some people make it is because they are married to Andy Spade, have a lucrative background and/or are founded on an amazing previous career. Alright, I just did a post for Land of Nod, but I've got to share the adorable additions to their Bla Bla line. These are relatively pricey compared to your average stuffed animal, but they are so worth it. They are completely fair trade, handmade, and amazing quality. Yudus are ON SALE at Joann's fabrics right now for only $99. So I finally bought one. Woohoo! For those of you who don't know, this is a personal screen printing machine made by Provo Craft (Yay for my home town). They retail for up to $299, and it's hard to find them for less than $200. So this is a fantastic deal. Basically, the machine is an all-in-one screen printer that takes care of everything you need to silkscreen your own t-shirts, pillows, table cloths, posters, cards...you name it. It's not perfect and there are a lot of tutorials online about how to make it work well. But for $99 to get started, not a huge setback. I'll be keeping you updated on the projects I (eventually) churn out on this thing.

Well, we're moving into autumn (yay!) and it may be the middle of winter when I finally release my "Suns" series. My ballerinas are finally done (although color variations are coming), and next on the horizon is my "owls" series (stay tuned...and don't worry, there's always room for more owls in the market). But I thought I'd throw out this preview of what I've been toying with for the first in my series of large mid-century-modern-style suns. I really want to have them printed on canvas. Big. But that will get committing cost-wise. Any comments? And, I'd really love to hear comments on what subject matters ya'll are interested in (is there a void in the market)? Forgive me for being so candid in my marketing research.

I am loving this site, The Prudent Homemaker, put on by an LDS (that's short for Latter-day Saint or Mormon, for those of you who are saying, Huh?) woman who, at one point in her married life, had very little money to go on. She learned how to make gourmet and tasty meals on a budget and was eventually inspired to make this site. It has great recipes (with great photos) and lots of useful info on gardening, stocking your pantry, and cooking. You can even visit recipes based on the season. Go check it out!

Yellow with gray is so popular and I have fallen in love with it myself. If I could take a decent photo of an interior design I would post about my own bedroom (I have the yellow/gray giraffe print of mine above our bed, which features DwellStudio for Target's Mandala bedspread). Here they are. Without considering any minor tweaking, these little babies are finished. I'm going to sit on them awhile before they go into production because I have to order things in big shipments, otherwise I spend too much on shipping. Sigh. I'll never make a profit at this rate! I have never wanted to plug a product more than the amazing Boba. But I also feel bad telling someone that must buy one, when I got mine for $59 instead of $100 because I got it on Zulily. Well, today they're back! And even more styles. These things are amazing: They fit a child up to 45 pounds (seriously!), they can be worn front OR back, they have a roll out head cover, foot supports that slide back and forth on a runner around the waist so larger kids can support their dangling legs, and they are so easy to put on. Really cute shoes on ideeli today, from Max Studio, True Religion, and Lovely People. I still haven't bought anything from this site, but they have amazing stuff. It's never dirt cheap because it starts out as pretty pricey to begin with, depending on the brand. But even though $3000 is a "steal" for a Chanel bag, that's still a little out of my price range. And, in my humble opinion, wrong no matter how you look at it.

I love Annie's products: an awesome company that you can really feel good about buying from, plus cute bunnies on the box. I happened to check out their website just to see if I could get some coupons or something, and I discovered this offer for a free gardening kit. It's just some seeds and gloves, but hey: FREE. You just need the UPC code from two Annie's products purchased between January and April this year. You just enter the codes online. No mailing anything in. My daughter is going to love getting this in the mail.

The Ergo carriers have always had that advantage of carrying larger babes, but this looks even better: the Boba! My little Ivy is not-so-little and has outgrown her Bjorn. This fits "babies" up to 45 lbs (if you're up for carrying that much weight in any form). I'm not a sling/wrap gal: I like my front packs. We also have a Kelty carrier, but man you look silly wearing one of those in the grocery store. What is scandalously exciting is that they are on a hot deal at Zulily right now for $59 instead of $100. In 3 color options. Really, really want one. Just to convince my husband (that's another thing I love; when he can wear it, too.)

This morning I discovered an adorable clothing line via Zulily: Hazel. Why am I sharing clothes that are already sold out? First, because the top two images aren't yet. Second, to instill in you the urgency of shopping early in the morning (most of the Hazel stuff sold out in a couple of hours...I literally had all the sizes of the pink jacket sell out while I was checking out...luckily I still got mine). Third, because there are some great ideas for a DIY project. I'm going to try to sew a bunch of ribbon bows all over a cardigan! Mod Cloth Discovered!

Those of you who knew about Mod Cloth and didn't tell me...shame on you! There is something to be said for those little postage-stamp-size ads that pop up along the side of Facebook. That's how I discovered this fabulous side! 15 minutes of swiftly scrolling through still wasn't enough to get through it all (there are 11 pages of 300 items in the apparel section...that doesn't include the shoes). And note: their adorable, modest swimsuits also come in plus-sizes. Anthropologie-esque styles at Anthropologie sale prices. Shop on.

I'm getting really into this whole giclée thing, so I'm extra excited when I discover the grear and affordable art that this makes available. Look at these great pieces (only $35 each) from Inaluxe, an Australia-based shop. Keep in mind these are not printed on canvas; they just look like they are. Yogurt!

Alright folks, the waiting is over. The fear. The doubts. The sheer laziness. I finally made my own yogurt.

Some facts:
1: it worked.
2: 2 quarts cost less than $2 to make*
3: it was easy
4: I have eaten it and am still alive
5: I had all the required equipment on hand
6: it was delicious

*(I get milk for $1.99/gallon)

I'm just putting this out there to plant a seed of encouragement for all of you still eating nasty tasting, sugary, overly packaged, expensive, American yogurt. This is not an attack on you personally, just your yogurt. I have been shoving it down, too, though I am not at all ignorant of what good yogurt can be (you've been to Europe?). I kept saying I was going to start making my own yogurt, but I just kept putting it off. But after watching our recycling been overflow with little tiny Activia and Tillamook cups (I am SO sick of rinsing those things out), I thought, "Enough." This isn't one of those activities that Martha Stewart puts out there as domestic simplicity and then, after using up half your Saturday, spending $89 on supplies, and trashing your kitchen, you realize it just wasn't worth it. This is actually super easy. I used this recipe by Crystal Miller (just don't add as much sugar as they say; way too much).
